(CP) - The Vancouver Canucks are up and the Edmonton Oilers keep dropping in our totally subjective and weekly ranking of the league's 30 clubs:

1. Buffalo Sabres. Keep winning despite missing one third of lineup.

2. Nashville Predators. Top defenceman Kimmo Timonen an unrestricted free agent July 1.

3. Anaheim Ducks. Really needed to pick up a defenceman at the trade deadline.

4. Detroit Red Wings. Kyle Calder could prove a terrific pickup.

5. New Jersey Devils. Best PK in the Eastern Conference.

6. Vancouver Canucks. No team in the West wants to face the Canucks in the first round.

7. San Jose Sharks. Added much-needed experience in Bill Guerin and Craig Rivet.

8. Ottawa Senators. Hoping to hurt Toronto's playoff chances with back-to-back games this week.

9. Calgary Flames. Doing their best to keep up with Canucks in Northwest title race.

10. Pittsburgh Penguins. Kansas City here we come?

11. Dallas Stars. Who will start in the playoffs, Mike Smith or Marty Turco?

12. Minnesota Wild. Could be a dangerous underdog in the first round of the playoffs.

13. New York Islanders. GM Garth Snow surprising many.

14. Tampa Bay Lightning. Brad Richards playing much better of late.

15. Atlanta Thrashers. The Keith Tkachuk/Alexei Zhitnik trades have given the Thrashers a bolt.

16. Carolina Hurricanes. The Stanley Cup hangover that won't go away.

17. New York Rangers. Huge emotional win over the Islanders on Monday night. Now do it again Thursday.

18. Toronto Maple Leafs. Losing Tomas Kaberle was a terrible and unfair blow.

19. Boston Bruins. Guess who's back in the playoff race!

20. Montreal Canadiens. Fading, fading, fading...

21. Florida Panthers. They won't give up despite being sellers at the trade deadline.

22. Colorado Avalanche. Paul Stastny trying to have a say in the Calder race.

23. St. Louis Blues. Not a fun team to play against right now.

24. Edmonton Oilers. Next year can't come fast enough.

25. Washington Capitals. Jiri Novotny could be a very good player for this team.

26. Columbus Blue Jackets. Couldn't move Bryan Berard.

27. Phoenix Coyotes. Nice return on Yanic Perreault.

28. Chicago Blackhawks. Need to find a centre this summer for Martin Havlat.

29. Los Angeles Kings. Gutsy move to trade captain Mattias Norstrom.

30. Philadelphia Flyers. Look for Martin Biron to re-sign with the Flyers.
